2024 Xinjiang Biennale: Pulse of the Hinterland
As the wind of Eurasia sweeps across the ancient Silk Road, the pulse of art beats strongly here. Opening grandly at Xinjiang Art Museum on July 28, 2024, the 4th China Xinjiang International Art Biennale, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, takes "Pulse of the Hinterland" as its core theme. Integrating Xinjiang's central Eurasian location with a global artistic perspective, it unfolds a cultural picture spanning regions and connecting ancient and modern times. A national cultural exchange brand with a decade of development, the biennale serves as both a witness to Xinjiang's booming cultural and artistic undertakings and an important link for cultural exchanges among Belt and Road countries.

The biennale features an unprecedented scale, enabling extensive and in-depth artistic experience. It utilizes 7 exhibition halls of Xinjiang Art Museum, with a 7,000-square-meter exhibition space setting a new record. Through the parallel structure of the main exhibition and parallel exhibitions, a diverse and complementary academic ecology is formed. The main exhibition consists of four units focusing on digital technology, ecological coexistence, Silk Road culture and international cooperation; the parallel exhibition sorts out the century-long development of Xinjiang's fine arts, constructing a cultural narrative with historical depth and contemporary vitality. Artistic forces from 14 countries and regions including China, Italy, Germany and Kazakhstan gather here, with 263 works creating a cross-border artistic dialogue platform.
Innovative exhibition methods enhance interactive and immersive experiences. Breaking traditional modes, the biennale covers classic art forms such as traditional Chinese painting, oil painting and sculpture, while embracing cutting-edge genres like ecological art and tech art. The integration of digital VR and new media works transforms audiences from passive viewers to active participants. Professional curators inject academic depth through careful spatial layout, promoting cross-disciplinary integration of art and bringing new inspirations to local creations.

Running from July 28 to October 15, this three-month art feast welcomes visitors from all over the world. More than an exhibition, it has become an important window to promote Xinjiang's international reputation and Chinese culture. Step into Xinjiang Art Museum, feel the profound heritage of the hinterland in the pulse of art, and experience the power of cultural coexistence in cross-cultural dialogues.
